Believe it or not, it is very different! Although well-intentioned, your friends may struggle to remain impartial, listen without advising, or understand your concerns without bias.
On the other hand, therapy provides an exclusive space for self-exploration without judgement. Trained therapists, equipped with years of education and practical experience, offer a unique approach to tackle life's stressors. We create a confidential, judgment-free zone to delve into personal struggles, promoting emotional insight and enduring change.
The therapist-client relationship is unique, fostering a space of unconditional acceptance and positive regard. My commitment solely revolves around your well-being, ensuring an unbiased perspective that avoids giving advice or getting too personally involved.

We’ll meet on a weekly basis at a set time. Sessions are 50 minutes for individuals and 60 minutes for couples.
Regarding the duration of therapy, my goal is to provide support for however long you feel is necessary. For some, several months are sufficient to address life's challenges and feel prepared to move forward on their own. Others find value in maintaining a longer-term therapeutic relationship. How long therapy lasts will be an ongoing conversation that we will have during the course of treatment.
I've also worked with clients who may choose to pause therapy and return when they sense heightened anxiety or encounter situations warranting sessions again. I wholeheartedly welcome past clients - whether to return to therapy with me, or simply to share a life update via email!

I am in-network with Aetna (including PPO, HMO, and Aetna Student plans) and with Wellfleet (NYU, School of Visual Arts, Sarah Lawrence, etc.).
If your insurance isn't listed above, don't fret! I can also provide a monthly superbill for “out-of-network” clinical services, which may be covered in part or in full by your health insurance plan. Please review your coverage carefully by asking your provider these questions:
Do I have "out-of-network" mental health insurance benefits?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
What is my "co-insurance"?
How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
What is the coverage amount per session?
Is approval required from my primary care doctor?
In instances where out-of-network benefits are covered, you will be responsible for payment at the time of service and your insurance will reimburse your expenses afterward.
